Hi there!

My name is Alex, and I am a software developer specializing in interactive data visualizations with R and JavaScript. I love using open-source software to explore data and sharing new tools to help people uncover new data stories all around us. Let’s look at some data together!

Me on last day of the 2020-2021 ski season at Wildcat Mountain

I enjoy using R and JavaScript (specifically Observable notebooks) to explore datasets and create powerful models and visualizations in a variety of areas:

  • Politics/political science/social science
  • Sports and motorsports (especially Formula 1 racing)
  • Public policy
  • IT/security
  • Equities and crypto investing
  • Weather and climate (inspired by plenty of weird weather here in New Hampshire)
  • Probably other stuff I’m forgetting about

My favorite data science packages and libraries include:

  • tidyverse (especially dplyr, ggplot2, purrr)
  • h2o (JVM ml and tuning/ensembling for R and Python)
  • Shiny
  • Leaflet
  • Observable Plot
  • D3.js
  • Arquero
